I am a veterinary surgeon and qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1987. Since 1991 I have worked in dermatology, both in clinical practice and research. I have worked in private referral practice, for the Animal Health Trust and more recently in academic practice at both the University of Liverpool and at Nottingham.

After a year working part-time in the pharmaceutical industry providing specialist support I remain an advisor to several veterinary pharmaceutical companies. I was co-editor on Veterinary Dermatology for over 3 years.

I hold the RCVS Certificate and Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology and am a RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Dermatology. My PhD, completed in 2000 led to the first objective description of the role of genetics in canine atopic dermatitis. My clinical and research interests overlap on the related themes of canine atopic dermatitis and otitis externa.
