About the expert panel:

Lizzie Lockett

CEO, Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)

Lizzie joined the RCVS in February 2005 as Head of Communications.

In 2014, Lizzie set up the Mind Matters Initiative (MMI), to make a difference to the mental health and wellbeing of members of the veterinary team.

Lizzie was appointed CEO in November 2017.

She sits on the Communications and Fundraising Committee of the Mental Health Foundation, is a Trustee of RCVS Knowledge, and is a Director of the Veterinary Policy Research Foundation.

 

Malcolm Morley

President, British Veterinary Association (BVA)

Malcolm is a 1993 Bristol Veterinary School graduate with almost 30 years’ experience in equine medicine in the UK and Australia.


He is a Clinical Director at Stable Close Equine Practice, which he co-founded in 2003 and has since built into a leading first-opinion practice.


Outside of clinical practice, Malcolm is a member of the BVA Policy Committee and is an honorary life member of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians.

 

Huw Griffiths

Senior Vice-President, British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA)

Huw graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2000. After some time at Auburn University in USA, he worked at the Kedrah Stud in Tipperary, where he was primarily involved with sports horse breeding.

On his return to the UK he worked in ambulatory equine practice in Surrey before joining Liphook Equine Hospital in 2004.

Huw is also now Clinical Director at Liphook Equine Hospital and served as BEVA President 2021-2022.

 

 

Lyndsay Hughes RVN

Junior Vice-President, British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA)

Lyndsay started working in practice in 2002 and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2013.

Since then, she has worked in various first opinion practices in head nurse or management roles. Currently she is one of the small animal Directors of a busy small animal hospital in Wiltshire.

Lyndsay is jointly responsible for all aspects of running the practice from streamlining processes, auditing, supporting staff development, best practice, as well as bringing a new perspective to the board of Directors as the only nurse within the directorship.

Lyndsay is excited about the future of veterinary nursing. To be able to support their aspirations is key, and to continue providing positive platforms and role models to do this is essential.

 

Justin Powlesland

Founder & Managing Director, JHP Recruitment

Justin has worked in veterinary recruitment since 2009, and founded JHP in 2015.
