Vet Med Is Hard Enough. Why Are Our Brains Making It Harder? And What Can We Do About It?

Session Summary

At the end of the day, do you remember the surgeries that went well… or the client who was rude? Does looking at the diary make you smile or make you tense up?

Veterinary teams are trained to spot problems, anticipate risk and find solutions under pressure. These skills are essential in practice, but over time, they can also leave us stressed, focused on the negatives, and missing the good stuff that happens along the way.

Sarah Schofield, vet, coach and founder of Positivity in Practice, explores how the brain can support us and work against us at the same time when it comes to stress, confidence and wellbeing in practice, and what we can do to change that. She’ll share two simple tools designed to help positive experiences stick more easily and stressful moments feel less overwhelming.

This is a practical, neuroscience-based session, but Sarah keeps it high-level and non-technical, so the whole veterinary team can get the most out of it.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how your brain can help and harm your wellbeing at the same time.
  • Understand why insight and knowledge alone do not always change how we feel under pressure.
  • Learn two simple tools to help create a more balanced outlook and make stressful moments feel less overwhelming.
