Chaos and Cuttlefish!

First opinion care for hypocalcaemic exotic patients
In association with Vetark

Hypocalcaemia in exotic pets is very common and can be a cause of lots of stress in veterinary teams as well as significant compromise to the patient’s welfare. The presentation in practice of hypocalcaemia is extremely variable and often misdiagnosed; in this talk we will review the metabolic pathway of calcium in the common exotic pets, as well as how to treat acute and chronic hypocalcaemia - and most importantly how to prevent them!

Learning objectives:

1. Understand how calcium metabolism goes wrong

2. How to identify hypocalcaemia in small mammals, birds and reptiles

3. How to treat hypocalcaemia - a practical guide

4. What we can do to educate owners, and how its NOT all about UV!
