Breaking Barriers

Nerys attended The University of Nottingham’s Sutton Bonington campus, where she studied for a BSc degree in Animal Science.

In 2021, she completed a PhD in sheep production also at Nottingham.

Nerys has worked in the agriculture industry for nearly 20 years, initially as a Farm Business Consultant, then as a Sheep Consultant at ADAS, followed by a regional role at AHDB. Her work combines her business management experience with her technical sheep knowledge to help farmers and organisations in the sheep industry achieve their goals.

Dawn graduated from Glasgow in 2009 and started her career in mixed practice before focussing only on farm animal clinical work for the past 10 years.

Her lifelong passion for sheep, coupled with an interest in flock level medicine and productivity paved the route to becoming an advanced practitioner in 2019.

She has a strong drive to help safeguard a sustainable sheep industry in changing times. She has been involved in AHDB's Challenge Sheep project since 2017 and currently working with upland farming groups. 

Kaz graduated from Cambridge in 2017 and has worked mostly in suckler beef and sheep practice since then at Black Sheep Farm Health in Northumberland, becoming a partner in the practice in 2021.

He has locumed around the UK, and took a year-long working sabbatical to New Zealand.

Outside of work, he has a small mixed herd of suckler cattle.

Will is a Director at Belmont Farm and Equine Vets and part of the XL Vets Leadership Team.

His focus in practice is mainly Sheep and Beef with interests around improving interactions and results from health reviews.

He is also a Veterinary Prescribing Champion and steering group member for the Clinical Guidelines for Key Diseases sent out to Welsh practices with Arwain DGC.

John graduated from the University of Bristol in 2012. Originally from Staffordshire, he took his first job down in Wiltshire and worked in farm animal practice there until returning to the Midlands to join Shropshire Farm Vets in January 2016.

He has a keen interest in parasitology, particularly in sheep, and enjoys working with shepherds on a flock level to enhance their production and profitability.

Outside of work he plays the piano and tinkers with cars.
