Talk Summary

In this session we will cover tips and tricks for the emergently dyspnoeic patient, including how to localise the origin of the dyspnoea, and with reference to the underlying (patho)physiology. We will then emphasize the ways in which point of care ultrasound helps you expedite the diagnosis.

Finally, a tour of radiographic findings in common presentations (eg. pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, aspiration) will help you diagnose much more easily, with a particular emphasis on how to use your underlying anatomy knowledge.

Learning Objectives:

✅ Recognising the value of stepping back and observing the patient

✅ Improved ability to localise the source of the dyspnoea

✅ Appreciating the value (and limitations!) of POCUS in the assessment of the dyspnoeic patient

✅ Improved radiographic interpretation skills
