You Don’t Have a Confidence Problem in VetMed

Session Summary
Many veterinary professionals report struggling with confidence, imposter syndrome, or people-pleasing.
But what if that’s not actually the real challenge?
In this session, we explore a different perspective, one that moves beyond surface-level explanations and into what’s really happening beneath the day-to-day pressures of veterinary work.
We’ll look at how working in a high-responsibility, high-performance environment can gradually pull people away from their own needs, values, and sense of self, often without realising it.
Because when confidence drops, it’s rarely about capability.
It’s usually about disconnection.
This session will help attendees recognise the signs of that disconnect, understand why it happens, and begin to think differently about what kind of support might actually be helpful moving forward.
Learning Objectives
- Recognise why confidence, imposter syndrome and people-pleasing commonly show up in veterinary professionals
- Identify underlying factors contributing to a loss of confidence in veterinary work
- Differentiate between surface-level solutions and more sustainable approaches
- Reflect on personal experiences and identify one small step towards reconnecting with self

About Vet Empowered
Vet Empowered is a coaching organisation built by vets, for veterinary professionals, created to support people working in a profession that asks a lot of them, often at the expense of themselves.
Using a trauma-informed, somatic approach, Vet Empowered helps individuals move beyond surface-level fixes for burnout, imposter syndrome, and confidence struggles, and instead reconnect with who they are beneath the role.
Their work focuses on developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and sustainable ways of working, supporting people to care deeply about their work without losing themselves in it.
Their six-month Signature Programme provides a structured space for this deeper work, helping vets and nurses rebuild confidence, set meaningful boundaries, and find a way of practising that feels both effective and sustainable.
