Breathe Easy: A Lecture hosted by Courtney Scales
An overview of Airway Management, Breathing Systems and Manual Ventiliation
Live Nursing Webinar | 23rd October 8-9pm BST
Talk Summary
Although a veterinary surgeon usually performs the intubation, the RVN is primarily responsible for patient preparation and extubation, despite being trained in intubation.
This lecture discusses the veterinary nurse's role in preparing for and performing orotracheal intubation, as well as their role in an airway emergency. The proper use of a laryngoscope will be discussed and demonstrated.
The anatomy of the airway will also be discussed, as will techniques, airway device and breathing system selection, leak testing of breathing systems and cuff inflation techniques. It will also cover how capnography can be used to troubleshoot endotracheal tube or airway complications, monitor for hypercapnia, and will describe manual ventilation techniques.
