Meet The Panellists

Sue Paterson
RCVS President, 2023-2024
Sue Paterson qualified from Cambridge in 1984. After a time in mixed practice in Devon she took her Certificate then British and European Diplomas in Veterinary Dermatology and has been an RCVS and European Specialist for more than 20 years. She has recently been elected as a Fellow of the RCVS for meritorious contributions to clinical practice.
Sue was President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in 2023-24, is currently President of WAVD, and has been past President of BSAVA and ESVD.
Sue is a keep-fit fanatic and is a keen long-distance walker, runner and cyclist.

Julian Hoad
BSAVA President, 2024-2025
Dr Julian Hoad is a Veterinary Surgeon who qualified in 1996 after earning degrees in Microbiology and Biochemistry. He has served as a partner, owner, and clinical director at Crossways Vets in West Sussex for 17 years.
Julian has been a part of the BSAVA Education Committee, BSAVA PetSavers Grants Awarding Committee, and was lately part of the Publications Committee; he then joined the Presidential ladder two years ago as Junior Vice President, and is currently serving as 2024/25 President.
Julian has a strong interest in Ultrasonography and Surgery. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he enjoys Rock Climbing, Amateur Dramatics, and has a passion for languages, travel, Tapirs and baking.

Nikki McLeod
BVNA Council Member
A crazy cat lady and self-confessed study geek, Nikki has been an RVN since 2000. With her fingers in many pies, she splits what little time she has between working as the Cat Advocate and consulting nurse for a small animal practice in Fife Scotland, and also studying for multiple certificates.Â
Not satisfied with gaining her first undergraduate degree at 50, she is now studying Clinical Animal Behaviour at the University of Edinburgh, with a view to becoming a practice-based Clinical Animal Behaviourist.
She has also been keeping a BVNA Council seat warm for three years, and is a Trustee with the ABTC.

Liz Mullineaux
BVA President, 2024-2025
Liz is a 1988 âDick vetâ graduate with a varied career in small and large animal first opinion practice.
For many years she was a co-owner of a small animal Veterinary Hospital in Somerset. Alongside this role, she successfully completed a Clinical Doctorate which ultimately led to RCVS Specialist status in Wildlife Medicine (Mammalian). She now works in a variety of British wildlife related roles, including as an advisor to a large wildlife rescue charity and in academic teaching. She also locums for a small animal emergency service.
Liz is a Past President of the British Veterinary Zoological Society and a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

It has been quite the year in the veterinary profession, with a number of challenges facing vets, nurses and practice managers - but also some shoots of positivity, which we hope to cover in this discussion.
